On an isolated road in the California desert, tabloid reporter Matt Teller is returning from a futile search for a two-headed dog when his headlights pick out a strange shape in the road. Lashed to a metal cot is a mutilated corpse, freshly killed. In the remote highlands of Guatemala, ex-baseball great Bill Buchanon is scouting his salvation from booze and the bush leagues. He needs one sensational discovery to get him back to the big time, and he's got a tip about an Indian kid with an unbelievable arm. When Buchanon finds the young pitcher, the kid disappears without a trace, but the scout gets a consolation prize: the kid's pitching arm in an athletic bag.
