Sanctuary

By:  Joseph P. DeSario

On an isolated road in the California desert, tabloid reporter Matt Teller is returning from a futile search for a two-headed dog when his headlights pick out a strange shape in the road. Lashed to a metal cot is a mutilated corpse, freshly killed. For Teller, a veteran of too many searches for animal oddities, it's a sensational scoop, a chance to make it off the pet page and onto the front page, nothing more, until he returns to the scene and finds no trace of the crime.

In the remote highlands of Guatemala, ex-baseball great Bill Buchanon is scouting his salvation from booze and the bush leagues. He needs one sensational discovery to get him back to the big time, and he's got a tip about an Indian kid with an unbelievable arm. When Buchanon finds the young pitcher, the kid disappears without a trace, but the scout gets a consolation prize: the kid's pitching arm in an athletic bag.

Matt Teller and Bill Buchanon have begun a journey into the horrifying world of murder, conspiracy, and mysticism, a journey which will link their experiences to a sinister snare of bloody ritual and genocide on both sides of the border, while making them unlikely partners in a frantic bid for survival. A lot of innocent people are slated for death as they become inextricably entangled in an underground railroad and a centuries-old prophecy with the power to destroy.

"DeSario is a miracle worker... There's too much in Sanctuary for any author to pull off cleanly... yet DeSario makes it all sing...The violence is as sharp as the humor, and each brutal twist certifies the author's dexterity, cunning, and audacious weirdness...DeSario swings for the fences and knocks it clear out of the park."
